I too have netsky.D@mm. Is it wise to lose all restore points to fix it?
Col G04-18-04, 10:11 PMsomethingAfter stupidly opening one of many similar e-mails on
ntlworld.com i was told i had netsky.D@mm and Norton
could do nothing so I quickly pressed reset button on PC
case and restarted logging on as different user. Did a
full computer scan with no virus detected, BUT on the
activity log entry:
C:\Documents and Settings\colin gibson\Local
Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\0N9R6IJ9
\your_document[1].pif is infected with the
W32.Netsky.D@mm virus. Unable to repair this file.
The file C:\Documents and Settings\colin gibson\Local
Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\0N9R6IJ9
\your_document[1].pif is infected with the
W32.Netsky.D@mm virus. Access to the file was denied.
Found symantec d/load fix but im wondering if losing ALL
restore points might make me more vulnerable, as i could
have had something similar before and not known (restore
points are created routinely without notice).
Can i not delete it myself using a different user account
somehow, as i know what file and where it is?
Alarmingly, while writing this, to type @ i am actually
pressing the " key and vice versa!!! Is this it?

1) If you are using WinME or WinXP, disable System Restore
http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm
2) Reboot your PC into Safe Mode
3) Using McAfee Stinger, perform a Full Scan of your platform and clean/delete any
infectors found
4) Restart your PC and perform a "final" Full Scan of your platform
5) If you are using WinME or WinXP,Re-enable System Restore and re-apply any
System Restore preferences, (e.g. HD space to use suggested 200 ~ 400MB),
reboot your PC.
6) If you are using WinME or WinXP, create a new Restore point
7) Please report back your results
