File antivirus heuristics analyzer
Mattx230 14.12.2007 22:04 Well, my suggestion/question is very simple. Why By Default is hueristics analyzer Turned off in File Antivirus
. it is on by deafault in web-antivirus but, from past experience I Know that huerstics are very important for reconizing new and unkown malware. so.. if hueristics play sucha key role in the security would they turn it off by default?. well i asked a nice man at kaspersky tech support. and he told it was because it is to make the scanning time faster. well im not to sure about u but ill settle for halfway if it means better protection. so i guess my suggestion would be top turn it on by default in File Antivirus in 8.0 maybe put it on shallow or something. I stumped myself with this one. since i have loved kaspersky for about 2 years now. Well, Best of luck to Kaspersky and hopefully next year it will remain on top. and maybe use hueristics by default
Cheers, Matt.

that's because there's usually no reason. for on execution detection you havve the proactive defense which does almost the same as heuristics, but in real time. Boyfriend 15.12.2007 15:44 That's nice. Actually to improve real time scanning speed, they have turned it off. If you enable Proactive defense, then you might set it off. If you don't turn on Proactive defense, then you should enable it. Just a suggestion. bildos 15.12.2007 16:03 After install KIS should start "configuration wizard" wher user immediately after install will config KIS.
I know it can be done manually after install, but most people can forget about it, because of after install is recommander OS restart.

the configuration wizard does start exactly after you install kis. Julian 15.12.2007 17:48 IMO heuristic analysis should be enabled by default for file-av on Vista and XP x64 because the proactive defense isn't that powerfull there and with basic protection the situation is even worse. the generic detections (trojan.generic, worm.generic...) work on vista & 64 too Julian 15.12.2007 18:53 QUOTE(Lucian Bara @ 15.12.2007 16:41)

But that doesn't mean the emulator detects the same as the PDM and so it's useless, does it? Lucian Bara 15.12.2007 18:58 i really can't say. the emulator has some advantage when detecting malware with the fact that the database is updatable and kl is adding generic signatures.
you know there's always the balance between performance and usability. if the v8 engine will offer a significant performance gain maybe the emulator can be enabled by default. Mattx230 15.12.2007 23:43 Hi, thanks for the feedback guys. but im not sure whatt eh emulator is.. ism it the heuristics? lol and "PDM" must stand for Proactive defence mechanism right?. enyways i was wondering since there is some mixed feelings on here about if it should be on or off. do u have eny personal preference suggestions on how u configures your KIS. right now i have everything set to recommended except in proactive defense i check to detect keylogger. and in file antivirus i check to scan instalation packages. i look forward to ur imput
